My Resume is your best bet if you are looking for a list of my technical skills, applications and experience.
Personal Note
Hi, I'm Matt. I am currently a 22 year old student attending the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. I have recently just accepted a full-time job as a Front-End Developer at The New York Times in New York City and am graduating in May '08 with a Bachelors degree in Information Technology. When I'm not in class I'm usually doing some work for my web development company, Blendue Creative, or some front-end work for Rareview Interactive.
The design of this site grew out of my recent interest in (Western) typography and print. A simple, minimalistic site that was focused around typography was my goal. With the recent "Web 2.0" buzz in the last few years, I wanted to get away from that style and focus on content and information rather than overloading users with glossy images and colors.
All my life I have considered myself to be a "designer" and until recently never payed close attention to type. We see it everyday and I know that I have been taking it for granted. Whether you are walking down the street noticing all the ads on billboards or reading the newspaper, type is more than just words, it is an effective way to convey a message and the style of the type helps to articulate what the designer is trying to say. Type is such a powerful tool for communication and design and it often gets overlooked. Personally I am making an effort to pay more attention to the anatomy and beauty of type in our everyday lives.
Technical Notes
Italicized MgOpen Canonica is used for the headers while the content is basic Arial. The big header across the top is also MgOpen Canonica. My logo in the top left created out of DIN Bold Alternate. All of the headers on my site use sIFR technology which allows me to use the typefaces I want to on all platforms.
This site is hand coded by me, Matt Bango, using the following technologies: XHTML, CSS, Javascript (and AJAX), PHP and MySQL. When I was working from my PC I used Adobe Dreamweaver to do my coding. When I was working from my Mac, I used a great application called BBEdit as my text-editor of choice. Most of the Javascript on my site is written using the Mootools framework (try it, you'll love it).
No, the Notebook section is not Wordpress, it is hand coded by me. The content of my site is managed using a custom built CMS which I use a version of for clients that come to Blendue. It's a nice, simple and easy to use CMS which makes updating my site a breeze.
