Personal Note
Hi, I'm Matt. I am currently a 24 year old Web Developer working at The New York Times in New York City. I have recently graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY in May 2008 with a Bachelors degree in Information Technology. When I'm not at work I'm usually doing some work for my web development company, Flek, or taking photographs of birds in the New York City area.
The design of this site grew out of my recent interest in (Western) typography and print. A simple, minimalistic site that was focused around typography was my goal. With the recent "Web 2.0" buzz in the last few years, I wanted to get away from that style and focus on content and information rather than overloading users with glossy images and colors.

Technical Notes
First and foremost, if you're not viewing the site in Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, or Google Chrome, stop what you are doing right now and go download one of those browsers. Not only will my site look much better, you'll also have an overall better browser experience. (My site uses CSS3 selectors and properties that only these browsers support).
Italicized MgOpen Canonica is used for the headers while the content is basic Helvetica. The big header across the top is also MgOpen Canonica. My logo in the top left created out of DIN Bold Alternate. All of the headers on my site use sIFR technology which allows me to use the typefaces I want to on all platforms.
This site is hand coded by me, Matt Bango, using the following technologies: XHTML, CSS, Javascript (and AJAX), PHP and MySQL. When I was working from my PC I used Adobe Dreamweaver to do my coding. When I was working from my Mac, I used a great application called TextMate as my text-editor of choice. Most of the Javascript on my site is written using the Mootools framework, however since then I have fallen in love with JQuery and will be porting over functionality to JQuery.
The Social Activity section's content is completely provided by the various social network API's and RSS feeds that are made available. The content of my site is managed using a custom built CMS which I use a version of for clients that come to Flek. It's a nice, simple and easy to use CMS which makes updating my site a breeze.
