I have recently purchased a new iPhone 3G S and I’m hooked. I’m not sure why I haven’t made the plunge in earlier, oh wait, *cough* AT&T *cough*. I’ve been playing around with the iPhone SDK for a few months now, so I knew my way around the iPhone quite well. However, one feature caught me by surprise, the camera. With OS 3.0, you can record video clips and upload them directly to YouTube. This new update is starting to get into some really powerful advancements. If the iPhone has the ability to shoot quality photos and videos and upload them directly on site, I believe some ultra portable camera companies should start getting scared, if they’re not already.
Before I run off on a tangent about that, let’s get back to what this post is about, iPhoneAsArt.com. I’ve been extremely impressed with the iPhone’s camera and have had a lot of fun experimenting with it. I believe the 3G S’s camera is to the point that you can use it to produce some quality work. After all, a camera is simply a tool for the artist, and this tool does the job. That being said, I decided I wanted to try produce some really nice photography using only the iPhone’s camera. I also wanted a blog-like site that I could upload photos to when I only have my iPhone handy and not my DSLR and thus, iPhone as Art was born. The concept is simple, I’m going to upload images that I take with my iPhone to the site for anyone to follow. Anything that looks interesting to me will show up here as I see it through the lens of the iPhone. I won’t be doing any post-processing on the images using Photoshop, however I’m going to experiment with native iPhone photo apps to see what’s out there and will certainly share my tips and learning experience with you here.
Living in New York City, I see a lot of really interesting stuff, especially traveling back and forth to work, you see new things every day. For example, today on my way home I witnessed a fist fight between two massive men with hundreds of people huddled around as if it were on a school playground and not at 36th and Broadway. I hope to capture some of this and share it with you on iPhone as Art!

I’m a photographer and I love my iPhone and have been very busy taking photos with it. I love the freedom of the little camera and use it even when I’m out working for clients for fun, personal photos.
